Aquaculture presents one of our greatest opportunities to grow healthy, sustainable protein to meet our nation’s ever-growing demand. The United States is in a great position to be a leader in sustainable aquaculture, but a recent NOAA report states that aquaculture only accounts for 7% of total domestic seafood production. Rampant misinformation, confusion, and public opposition continue to threaten the growth of the sector. It is time for the aquaculture sector to invest in positive, proactive literacy and storytelling and stop playing defense.
Leading aquaculture outreach and PR professionals are organizing an Aquaculture Communications session at the Aquaculture 2023 in New Orleans next February, as well as hosting a networking happy hour event for communications professionals at the conference. The purpose of the session and happy hour is to generate connections, collaboration, and synergy, with the end goal being to promote aquaculture with positive messaging, now and in the future.
