The funding will support institutions like Texas A&M AgriLife Research in addressing economic and marketing challenges in US aquaculture. Despite abundant resources, domestic growth in the industry has been slow due to regulatory complexities and competition from imports. The project, led by Jonathan van Senten and Dr. Shraddha Hegde, aims to establish the Aquaculture Economics and Markets Collaborative over two years. This initiative will provide updated economic and market research, including retail scanner data, to improve business planning tools for stakeholders. Producer training workshops and bilingual materials will also be provided to enhance industry knowledge and sustainability. The collaboration seeks to address gaps in existing studies and promote a thriving domestic aquaculture industry.
