Rabobank’s RaboResearch predicts global aquaculture production will grow in 2025, driven by increased farmed fish and shrimp volumes. While tariffs and trade restrictions pose challenges, lower feed costs and rising demand are expected to benefit producers. Finfish production will lead the growth, while shrimp, still affected by low prices, is projected to see a modest recovery.
Atlantic salmon production, which declined for two years, is expected to see mild growth from 2024 to 2026, led by Norway. Norwegian output is forecasted to rise by 2.2% in 2025 and 5.3% in 2026, reaching 1.56 million and 1.64 million metric tons, respectively. However, this growth depends on stable biological conditions and improved harvest weights, as Norway faced challenges in 2024, including high lice loads and lower-grade salmon production.
