In this month’s feature, we travel to Effort, Pennsylvania, to highlight Allen Conklin, a dedicated board member whose connection to the trout industry spans generations. As a second-generation trout farmer, Allen carries forward a family legacy of stewardship and expertise in Pennsylvania’s storied waters.

Excellence in Sportfishing

Allen specializes in raising a diverse range of species, including brook, brown, rainbow, and golden rainbow trout. His operation focuses predominately on the sportfishing industry, providing high-quality fish that fuel the passion of anglers across the region. For Allen, the daily grind is defined by both the complexity of the work and the satisfaction of the result.

“I think my favorite thing is the variation and variety of challenges that there are to solve on the farm,” Allen says. “That, and being able to see all of our hard work pay off as beautiful fish going to happy customers.”

Life in the Poconos

Outside of the hatchery, Allen stays active and connected to the outdoors. Whether he is hunting, exercising, or rockin’ out, he finds balance by staying busy and spending quality time with his family and friends.

The Professional’s Choice

When it comes to the kitchen, Allen prefers a classic preparation that highlights the rich flavor of the harvest. His favorite way to enjoy trout? “Smoked!”
